VinFast’s RVG Program Brings More Predictability to EV Resale Value

VinFast’s RVG Program Brings More Predictability to EV Resale Value

Manila, Philippines | September 8, 2026 – A vehicle’s resale value, for unfamiliar EV makers, is one more uncertainty buyers have to weigh. The Residual Value Guarantee (RVG) Program offers a way to share that risk, and VinFast is putting the approach to work in the Philippines.

A brand-new car starts losing value the moment it leaves the dealership. How quickly that happens is harder to predict, and it can weigh on a buyer’s mind when the time comes to choose between a familiar name and a newer one. The big question then is simple: what will a vehicle be worth when it is time to let it go?

That question can be harder to answer for electric vehicles, particularly the newer brands with limited local resale history. For Filipino buyers considering an EV, the doubt around future value can become part of the decision long before they ever put the car up for sale.

This is the uncertainty VinFast is trying to address with its RVG program, which gives eligible buyers a predetermined reference point for their vehicle’s future value.

Resale Value: A Growing EV Concern

2025 study on EV adoption in the Philippines found that 48% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that EVs have a lower resale value than conventional fuel powered vehicles, while another 44% indicated uncertainty about EV resale value.

Deloitte’s 2023 Global Automotive Consumer Study similarly found that 19% of Philippine respondents cited uncertain resale value as a concern regarding battery EVs. For conventional vehicles, buyers have decades of market history to draw on – from used-car listings to word-of-mouth valuations.

A newer EV brand has less history to lean on. And because the Philippine used-car market is ultimately shaped by what buyers and sellers are willing to accept, there is no guaranteed answer to what a vehicle will be worth several years after purchase.

VinFast RVG Program Turns Unknown EV Resale Value Into a Predictable Number

VinFast’s RVG takes a different approach.

Instead of leaving a vehicle’s future value entirely to the market, the program establishes a predetermined value based on a fixed schedule. For eligible vehicles, VinFast guarantees up to 90% of the vehicle’s net retail price after six months, 86% after one year, 78% after two years, and 70% after three years, subject to the program’s conditions.

Consider a VF 5 purchased at a ₱1.099 million net retail price. Under the program’s 70% three year guarantee, its guaranteed value would be ₱769,300 after three years, provided the vehicle meets eligibility requirements.

The distinction is important: an RVG does not mean the vehicle will not depreciate. Rather, it gives the buyer a predetermined reference point  and provides a path for VinFast to take on part of the resale-value risk.

With VinFast’s RVG, a qualifying owner has another option: instead of finding a buyer through the open market, they can go through the program’s buyback mechanism, with VinFast purchasing the vehicle at the guaranteed value applicable under the program, subject to its terms and conditions.

VinFast: More Than a Resale Guarantee

A vehicle is easier to own when it can be serviced conveniently. It is easier to use when charging is accessible. It is easier to keep on the road when warranty and aftersales support are clear. And it is potentially easier to pass on when more motorists are familiar with the brand, its vehicles, and the ecosystem supporting them.

This is where VinFast’s broader proposition becomes relevant. The company has been building its EV offering alongside the RVG, signalling its intention to establish a long-term presence in the market. As of September 2026, the company has established a network of 33 dealerships and 59 service centers, signed partnerships with banks, and worked with local partners to develop a growing charging network. Beyond expanding its network of dealerships and service centers, its vehicles are covered by warranties of up to 10 years and 200,000 km, depending on the model. VinFast also offers three years of free charging at V-Green-operated stations, flexible financing, and 24-hour technical and roadside assistance.

A straight-forward ownership experience is inseparable from resale value, as accessible charging and maintenance build the foundation of trust for future buyers. This ecosystem is particularly critical in the developing Philippine market, where a Deloitte study found that 55% of consumers worry about charging infrastructure and 36% cite a lack of EV knowledge.

In other words, building confidence in an EV involves more than selling the vehicle itself. It means giving buyers reasons to believe that the car will remain practical, supported and relevant throughout the ownership journey.

Building Confidence for the Next Buyer

An EV’s future value relies on an ongoing cycle of trust: accessible parts, practical daily use, and a thriving second-hand market. This explains why established legacy brands command premium used-car prices – widespread familiarity breeds buyer confidence, which inherently fuels an active resale market for the next generation of EV adopters.

VinFast tackles this challenge from two fronts: the brand’s RVG program establishes a predetermined reference value financial floor for the future, while an expanding charging and aftersales ecosystem makes daily ownership practical in Philippine realities. Ultimately, by answering the lingering question of “What happens when I am ready for my next car?” head on and upfront, VinFast provides the tangible transparency needed to make the switch to electric mobility much easier to trust.
