Manila, Philippines – Closeup, the beloved toothpaste brand that has been bringing people closer for decades, is thrilled to announce the release of a fresh rendition of the iconic song “Closer You and I.”
Originally conceptualized by MullenLowe TREYNA (the agency behind iconic campaigns for brands like Closeup, Surf, SM, and Selecta Cornetto), and beautifully performed by Gino Padilla in 1992, the timeless classic has been reimagined in 2024, introducing the song, the enchanting voice of the singer Adie and the magnetic love team of Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano, affectionately known as DonBelle, to a new generation.
The collaboration marks a significant milestone in Close Up’s history, seamlessly blending nostalgia with contemporary charm. The new version captures Closeup’s classic kilig, resonating with both long-time fans and newer audiences. The brand’s commitment to love’s joyous moments remains unwavering, captivating hearts in 2024 just as it did back in the 90s.
Gino Padilla, the original voice behind the beloved song, expressed his admiration for the new rendition: “The new version sounds great, and I have to congratulate Adie for doing such a wonderful job. He was able to inject his own style and represent his current generation.” Padilla fondly recalls the happy memories created with the Closeup team, highlighting the special bond and the joy shared during the song’s original recording.
Reflecting on the lasting impact of “Closer You and I,” Padilla shared, “It’s a great privilege, an honor to be part of the Close Up brand. Up to now, people associate my name with the song, and it is a great blessing.” He extended his gratitude to Louie Ocampo for the music, and Gina Tabuena-Godinez for the words, and, for their timeless contribution to Philippine music.
Padilla also mused on the universal and timeless nature of love and “kilig,” stating, “Kilig back then and now—it’s an emotion. It’s the same; it’s never going to change. It’s like love. If you have love, if you have that positive feeling or state of mind and heart, it’s only going to bring you good things.”
The release of the new single featuring Adie and the DonBelle tandem has been met with overwhelming excitement, signifying a new chapter in Closeup’s legacy of fostering connections through the power of love and music. “Congratulations to the new Closeup commercial, and thank you to the Closeup group for giving this song an extra mileage,” said Padilla.
