bai Hotel Cebu Commits to 30% Plant-Based Dining by 2027

Cebu City — bai Hotel Cebu, the Visayas’ largest hotel and a 4-star WorldHotels member, has announced its pledge to make 30% of its menu plant-based across all eight dining outlets by 2027, in partnership with international NGO Lever Foundation.

The move covers bai Hotel Cebu’s extensive operations, including its 668 guestrooms and suites, and forms part of its bai for Life 7 Pillars of Commitment sustainability framework.

“This 30% plant-based goal reflects our responsibility as the largest hotel in the Visayas to lead by example,” said Alfred Reyes, Vice President for Operations and General Manager of bai Hotel Cebu. “It’s not just about changing menus—it’s about caring for our guests, our community, and the environment we share.”

Cebu is seeing a rise in sustainable dining, with hotels and restaurants adopting plant-based commitments to meet evolving consumer demand. A national survey by GMO Research found that 85% of Filipinos believe restaurants and hotels should serve more plant-based foods, with 80% more likely to support businesses that set clear goals.

“bai Hotel Cebu’s leadership is inspiring,” said Marielle Lagulay, Sustainability Program Manager at Lever Foundation. “This commitment shows how regional leaders can drive meaningful change.”

The hotel recently received the 2024 Cebu Tourism and Hospitality Awards Sustainability Champion award from the Hotel Resort & Restaurant Association of Cebu.

Studies show that plant-based proteins generate up to 90% fewer emissions and use up to 90% less land and water compared to animal-based proteins, underscoring the impact of bai Hotel Cebu’s commitment.
