Japan Confirms Temporary Visitor Visas Remain Free for Filipinos

Filipinos planning a trip to Japan can breathe a sigh of relief after the Japanese Embassy in Manila clarified that temporary visitor visas remain free of charge for Philippine passport holders.

The clarification comes after Japan announced a fivefold increase in visa fees for many foreign nationals, with the new rates taking effect on July 1, 2026.

In an advisory posted on its official website and Facebook page, the embassy emphasized that the increase does not apply to Philippine nationals applying for a temporary visitor visa for stays of up to 90 days.

“Please note that a temporary visitor visa (for a stay of a maximum of 90 days) for a Philippine national remains gratis,” the embassy said.

While the Japanese visa itself remains free for eligible Filipino applicants, travelers should note that authorized visa application centers may still charge a separate service fee for processing applications
